We are looking for a care assistant for a senior woman who lives alone in Isernhagen in Lower Saxony. She uses a wheelchair and needs support with transfers, personal hygiene, dressing and light household tasks.

Tasks include helping with toilet visits using a toilet chair, assisting with intimate hygiene and changing aids, helping with dressing, and washing in bed or in the wheelchair. The senior eats and drinks independently. Light household work such as laundry, vacuuming, cooking and cleaning is part of the role. Shopping is usually done by family, but the care assistant may occasionally accompany. Night duties are occasional, not every night.

The house is barrier-free. The care assistant receives a private room with a private bathroom and WLAN. There are no pets in the household. Smoking is allowed only outside the living area. Family lives nearby. The senior wears hearing aids, so speaking slightly louder and clearly is helpful.

The assignment starts with arrival between 9 and 12 November 2026. The assignment is open-ended.

Requirements

  • German language skills at intermediate (communicative) level
  • Experience caring for elderly or care-dependent people
  • Willingness to help with personal hygiene, dressing and transfers
  • Patience, empathy and a sense of responsibility
  • Non-smoker in the living area
  • Driving license not required

What to expect

What this assignment means in practice

The key points from this assignment's description and how to prepare for them.

  • Wheelchair and transfers

Transfers are about technique, not strength. Before you travel, ask which aids the household has, such as a hoist, a care bed or a transfer board.

  • Help at night

The description mentions support at night. Ask your coordinator how often it is needed and when you can rest during the day.

  • Non-smoker

The family expects a non-smoker or smoking only outside the house. Say openly in your application whether you smoke — it makes matching easier.

  • Everyday German

Required level: conversational. Before you travel, brush up on phrases for meals, personal care and shopping. Centrum Eurokontakt also runs a German course for caregivers (taught in Polish).
